This week in church, three visitors from Indonesia with an Australian friend, literally popped in to visit KWUC. They offered a hand in friendship and extended that to include a song – Amazing Grace.
Such “random acts” are a real blessing, for the giver and the receiver. It was great to hear of their work in Indonesia, and the possibility of a return visit next year, traveling with some students. The potential for furthering such connections is always exciting – sharing the word, expanding our own view of the world beyond Kawana, and making new friends.
The role of mentoring in the church is so important these days. Defined as a relationship which aims to drive personal growth, building skills, knowledge, and understanding. Whether this is one-to-one, or between churches, it is an important aspect of discipleship. Building each other up, especially sharing of wisdom between older members of the congregation and the younger; a way of bridging the age gap.
A good mentor inspires, urges others to push beyond their limits, develops strengths, expands others perception, and most importantly, a good mentor does not judge. They offer a safe space to learn and grow.
So let us pray for each other, holding everyone up to God; and pray for ourselves to always be thoughtful of our responsibilities towards each other – as models and mentors.

Heavenly Father,
Thank you for giving us such a warm community of friends to go through life with. We praise you for the people we are blessed with on this journey, the ones who have come alongside us – even if just for a single point of contact.
We thank you for those who have loved, encouraged, supported and guided us, uplifting us through all the twists and turns of life. We are so grateful that we do not have to go through life alone, but that you have shown us examples of your love through the love of others.
We pray for the wisdom and perception to see when we need to reach out and be a mentor to those around us. We pray that you would be present in our friendships, and that you will always be there drawing us closer together in deeper community, just as you draw us closer to you.
Clothe each of us in compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness, and patience (Colossians 3:12-13). But above all, may we shine your light in all our relationships, giving glory to you in all that we do, say, and think.
Amen
